This course can be divided into four parts:

First; the rotation spectra, which interest in the IR's interaction with the substances and the IR's emitted from materials (like in the astronomy). 

The second one is the vibration spectra that happens in materials (like in  Microwaves) also with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere layer (like in the Greenhouse).

The third one is the photo-electronic transitions in materials as in solar cell systems. 

Last part is the molecular structure that focuses on how the material form together and how we can predicate about their electric and magnetic properties.
